Pattern Diagram Joong-gun

Joong-gun is named after the patriot Ahn Joong-gun who assassinated Hiro-Bumi Ito, the first Japanese governor-general of Korea. Ito was known as the man who played the leading part in the Korea-Japan merger. There are 32 movements in this pattern to represent Mr. Ahn’s age when he was executed in Lui-Shung prison (1910).

Movements: 32

Ready stance: Close readystance B

  1. Pivoting on the right foot and turning counterclockwise, move the left foot toward B into a right L-stance while executing a reverse, block with a reverse knife-hand.
  2. Execute a low, side, front snap kick to B with the left foot, keeping the position of the hands as they were in move 1.
  3. Lower the ball of the left foot toward B. Pivoting on the left foot move the right foot toward B into a left rear foot stance while executing a reverse, upward block with the palm.
  4. Pivoting on the left foot and turning clockwise, move the right foot toward A into a left L-stance while executing a reverse, block with a reverse knife-hand.
  5. Execute a low, side, front snap kick to A with the right foot, keeping the position of the hands as they were in move 4.
  6. Lower the ball of the right foot toward A. Pivoting on the right foot move the left foot toward A into a right rear foot stance while executing a reverse, upward block with the palm.
  7. Pivoting on the right foot and turning counterclockwise, move the left foot toward D into a right L-stance while executing a guarding block with a knife-hand.
  8. Slip the left foot straight to BD into a left walking stance to D, while executing a reverse, side front, upper elbow strike toward D.
  9. Move the right foot toward D into a left L-stance while executing a guarding block with a knife-hand.
  10. Slip the right foot straight to AD into a right walking stance to D, while executing a reverse, side front, upper elbow strike toward D.
  11. Move the left foot toward D into a left walking stance while executing a high, vertical punch with a twin forefist.
  12. Move the right foot toward D into a right walking stance while executing an upset punch with a twin forefist.

Perform move 13 in a spot-turning motion method one

  1. Move the ball of the right foot half way to the left foot and then pivoting on the right foot and turning counterclockwise, move the left foot toward C into a left walking stance while executing a rising block with an X-fist.
  2. Pivoting on the right foot and turning counterclockwise, move the left foot toward E into a right L-stance while executing a high, reverse, side, strike with the backfist.

Perform moves 15 and 16 in a fast motion, as well as performing move 15 as a release

  1. Slip the left foot straight to ED into a left walking stance to E, while twisting the left fist counterclockwise until the backfist faces downward.
  2. Maintain the left walking stance and execute a high, reverse, punch with the forefist to E.
  3. Move the ball of the left foot to the side of the right foot while facing C. Then pivoting on the left foot and turning clockwise, move the right foot toward F into a left L-stance while executing a high, reverse, side strike with the backfist.

Perform moves 18 and 19 in a fast motion, as well as performing move 18 as a release

  1. Slip the right foot straight to FD into a right walking stance to F, while twisting the right fist clockwise until the backfist faces downward.
  2. Maintain the right walking stance and execute a high, reverse, punch with the forefist to F.
  3. Move the ball of the right foot to the side of the left foot while facing C. Then move the left foot toward C into a left walking stance while executing a high, block with the double forearm.
  4. Pull the left foot toward FD into a right L-stance to C, while executing a reverse, punch with the forefist to C.
  5. Execute a right, side piercing kick to C. At the same time execute a high, right, punch with the forefist.
  6. Lower the right foot toward C into a right walking stance while executing a high, block with the double forearm.
  7. Pull the right foot toward ED into a left L-stance to C, while executing a reverse, punch with the forefist to C.
  8. Execute a left, side piercing kick to C. At the same time execute a high, left, punch with the forefist.
  9. Lower the left foot toward C into a right L-stance while executing a guarding block with the outer forearm.

Perform move 27 in a slow motion

  1. Slip the left foot straight to AC into a left walking stance to C, while executing a pressing block with the right palm to C.
  2. Pivoting on the left foot move the right foot toward C into a left L-stance while executing a guarding block with the outer forearm.

Perform move 29 and 30 in a slow motion

  1. Slip the right foot straight to BC into a right walking stance to C, while executing a pressing block with the left palm to C.
  2. Pivoting on the right foot and turning counterclockwise, move the left foot to the side of the right foot into a close stance to A, while executing a right angle punch with the forefist toward D.
  3. Pivoting on the left foot move the right foot toward A into a right fixed stance while executing a U-shape block with the reverse knife-hands.

While executing move 32 shout “Joong-gun” as a ki-hap and remain in this position until given the next command.

  1. Move the ball of the right foot to the side of the left foot while facing D. Then pivoting on the right foot and turning counterclockwise, move the left foot toward B into a left fixed stance while executing a U-shape block with the reverse knife-hands.

Pa-ro: Move the left foot back to the Ready stance.
