Chon-ji means literally "the Heaven-the Earth." In the Orient, it is interpreted as the creation of the world or the beginning of human history, therefore, it is the initial pattern played by the beginner. This pattern consists of two similar parts: one representing Heaven and the other representing Earth.

Ready stance: Parallel ready

  1. Pivot on the right foot and turn counterclockwise; move the left foot toward B into a left walking stance while executing a low, block with the outer forearm.
  2. Move the right foot toward B into a right walking stance while executing a punch with the forefist.
  3. Pivot on the left foot and turn clockwise; move the right foot toward A into a right walking stance while executing a low, block with the outer forearm.
  4. Move the left foot toward A into a left walking stance while executing a punch with the forefist.
  5. Pivot on the right foot and turn counterclockwise; move the left foot toward D into a left walking stance while executing a low, block with the outer forearm.
  6. Move the right foot toward D into a right walking stance while executing a punch with the forefist.
  7. Pivot on the left foot and turn clockwise; move the right foot toward C into a right walking stance while executing a low, block with the outer forearm.
  8. Move the left foot toward C into a left walking stance while executing a punch with the forefist.
  9. Pivot on the right foot and turn counterclockwise; move the left foot toward A into a right L-stance while executing a reverse, side, block with the inner forearm.
  10. Move the right foot toward A into a right walking stance while executing a punch with the forefist.
  11. Pivot on the left foot and turn clockwise; move the right foot toward B into a left L-stance while executing a reverse, side, block with the inner forearm.
  12. Move the left foot toward B into a left walking stance while executing a punch with the forefist.
  13. Pivot on the right foot and turn counterclockwise; move the left foot toward C into a right L-stance while executing a reverse, side, block with the inner forearm.
  14. Move the right foot toward C into a right walking stance while executing a punch with the forefist. 
  15. Pivot on the left foot and turn clockwise; move the right foot toward D into a left L-stance while executing a reverse, side, block with the inner forearm.
  16. Move the left foot toward D into a left walking stance while executing a punch with the forefist.
  17. Move the right foot toward D into a right walking stance while executing a punch with the forefist.
  18. Move the right foot toward C into a left walking stance toward D while executing a punch with the forefist toward D.

While executing move 19 shout “Chon-ji” as a ki-hap and remain in this position until given the next command.

  1. Move the left foot toward C into a right walking stance toward D, while executing a punch with the forefist toward D.
