Hwa-rang is named after the Hwa-rang youth group, which originated in the Silla Dynasty in the early 7th century. The 29 movements refer to the 29th Infantry Division, where Taekwon-Do developed into maturity.”

Ready stance: Close ready stance C

  1. Move the left foot toward B into a sitting stance to D, while executing a left, side front, pushing block with the palm to D.
  2. Maintain the sitting stance and execute a right, punch with the forefist to D.
  3. Maintain the sitting stance and execute a left, punch with the forefist to D.
  4. Pivoting on the left foot and turning clockwise, move the right foot toward A into a left L-stance while executing a twin forearm block.
  5. Maintain the L-stance and execute an upward punch with the forefist, pulling the right side fist in front of the left shoulder.

Perform move 6 in a sliding motion

  1. Slide toward A into a right fixed stance, while executing a side, punch with the forefist.
  2. Pull the right foot toward the left foot into a left vertical stance to A, while executing a reverse, side, downward strike with a knife-hand.
  3. Move the left foot toward A into a left walking stance while executing a punch with the forefist.
  4. Pivoting on the right foot and turning counterclockwise, move the left foot toward D into a left walking stance while executing a low block with the outer forearm.
  5. Move the right foot toward D into a right walking stance while executing a punch with the forefist.
  6. Pull the left foot toward the right foot with both feet facing BD. At the same time, bring the left palm to the right forefist while bending the right elbow about 45 degrees outward.
  7. Execute a right, side piercing kick to D, while pulling both hands in the opposite direction. Then lower the right foot toward D into a left L-stance while executing a reverse, outward, side, strike with a knife-hand.
  8. Move the left foot toward D into a left walking stance while executing a punch with the forefist.
  9. Move the right foot toward D into a right walking stance while executing a punch with the forefist.
  10. Pivoting on the right foot and turning counterclockwise, move the left foot toward E into a right L-stance while executing a guarding block with a knife-hand.
  11. Move the right foot toward E into a right walking stance while executing a thrust with a straight fingertip pulling the back of the left fingertips under the right elbow. 

Perform move 17 in a spot-turning motion – method one

  1. Move the ball of the right foot on the EF line. Then pivoting on the right foot and turning counterclockwise, move the left foot toward F into a right L-stance, while executing a guarding block with a knife-hand.

Perform move 18 and 19 in a fast motion

  1. Execute a right, high, turning kick to DF, then lower the ball of the right foot to F.
  2. Execute a left, high, turning kick to CF, then lower the left foot toward F into a right L-stance while executing guarding block with a knife-hand.
  3. Pivoting on the right foot and turning counterclockwise, move the left foot toward C into a left walking stance while executing a low block with the outer forearm.
  4. Pull the left foot straight toward the right foot into a right L-stance to C, while executing a punch with the forefist.
  5. Move the right foot toward C into a left L-stance while executing a punch with the forefist.
  6. Move the left foot toward C into a right L-stance while executing a punch with the forefist.

Perform move 24 with no balance recovery

  1. Slip the left foot straight toward AC, pivoting on the right foot into a left walking stance to C, while executing a pressing block with an X-fist to C. 

Perform move 25 in a sliding motion

  1. Move the right foot toward C into a right L-stance to D, while executing a thrust with the side elbow to C.
  2. Pivoting on the right foot and turning counterclockwise, bring the left foot to the side of the right foot into a close stance to B, while executing a right, high, side front, block with the inner forearm to B, at the same time extending the left forearm to the side, downward.
  3. Maintain the close stance and execute a left, high, side front, block with the inner forearm to B, at the same time extending the left forearm to the side, downward.
  4. Pivoting on the right foot, move the left foot toward B into a right L-stance while executing a guarding block with a knife-hand.

While executing move 29 shout “Hwa-rang” as a ki-hap and remain in this position until given the next command.

  1. Bring the ball of the left foot to the side of the right foot while facing D. Then pivoting on the left foot and turning clockwise, move the right foot toward A into a left L-stance while executing a guarding block with a knife-hand.

Pa-ro: Move the right foot back to the Ready stance.
